Brittany Mirick Fund

SHS Graduation 2009               SHS Senior Prom 2009                  Brittany with her brother Jacob

Brittany Mirick is my niece.  She is 18 years old.  She graduated from Southern High School in Louisville, KY in 2009.  Brittany was just starting her college career at St. Catharine College in St. Catharine, KY on a Softball Scholarship.  During her first week on campus, Brittany started passing out on the ball field and found out she was ill.  Brittany has been diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia (Bone Marrow Failure) and PNH (Paroxysnal Nocturanal Hemoglobinuria)

This is a life threatening condition.  We've advised that Brittany will need a Bone Marrow Transplant to cure this disease and save her life.  Until a matching donor can be located the only option is blood transfusions.  Brittany receives 2-3 blood transfusions per week.  We are trying to raise money to cover the medical expenses.  My sister has to pay copays 3-5 days per week.  Her medication costs $1600 per month after insurance.  She is undergoing experimental treatment now that is not covered by their insurance because it is not FDA approved.  One injection costs $30,000 and Brittany has had 4 so far.  Every dollar makes a difference.  Thanks!
